The Asian Development Bank (ADB) chose Viet Nam as the host country to its 44th annual meeting because the country is an effective partner which is known for political stability, high growth rate and fruitful poverty reduction, said Deputy PM, FM Pham Gia Khiem.

Deputy PM, FM Khiem made the statement during his first meeting with members of the Steering Commission for the upcoming ADB annual meeting.
Mr. Khiem, who is also the Chairman of the Commission, noted that the meeting shows ADB’s high confidence in Viet Nam’s rising role and prestige on the international arena.
The State Bank of Viet Nam (SBV) estimated that over 4,000 delegates would come to attend the meeting.
This is a good chance for the host country to introduce its products, culture, tourism, economic achievements and the outstanding results of poverty reduction, said SBV Governor Nguyen Van Giau who is the Vice Permanent Chairman of the Commission.
Meanwhile, Deputy PM Khiem remarked that it is a golden opportunity for Viet Nam to advertise trade and investment potentials as the Government is prioritizing trade promotion activities amid the ongoing global economic recovery.
Regarding Viet Nam’s preparations, he said that the SBV signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the ADB on August 5, under which the later will partly finance the meeting.
Deputy PM Khiem urged the SBV to quickly adopt detailed working programs, complete the logo competition, and launch the meeting’s website as soon as possible./.
