Seminar reviews WTO accession impacts on Vietnam
A seminar was held in Ho Chi Minh City on March 29 to review the impacts made by international economic integration on the Vietnamese economy three years after the country joined the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
Speaking at the seminar, hosted by the Ministry of Planning and Investment, the Deputy Director of the Central Institute for Economic Management (CIEM) Vo Tri Thanh, said integration contributed to increasing confidence in economic prospects, boosting economic development and exports and increasing foreign direct investment (FDI) attraction.
It also helped create more jobs, increase incomes and improve competitiveness and management capacity.
According to experts, the WTO accession also exposed a number of shortcomings and weaknesses in the quality of growth and human resources, economic restructuring, institutional capacity and infrastructure.
They put forth five groups of policies, focusing on improving the implementation of policies on international economic integration and the quality of growth and foreign investment as well as synchronously implementing policies on macroeconomic stabilisation and financial market development./.
