A seminar themed “Promoting the export of wooden and rattan products to the Japanese market” took place in Ho Chi Minh City on October 6 in a bid to increase exports of Vietnamese wood and rattan products to Japan.
The event was co-organized by Ho Chi Minh City’s Department of Industry and Trade, the Trade Promotion Department under the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the ASEAN-Japan Centre for Trade, Investment and Tourism Promotion (AJC).
According to AJC statistics, indoor wooden products account the largest part of wooden furniture imported by Japan with an annual value of US $1.5 billion.
The Việt Nam-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement says in the phase from 2010-2020, the tax level of around 92% of Vietnamese and Japanese commodities will be reduced from 5% to zero.
Japan will also give priority to agricultural, forestry and aquatic products imported from Việt Nam in comparison with other ASEAN countries./.
