Vietnam, India agree on closer strategic partnership
During the meeting between State President Truong Tan Sang and Indian President Pratibha Patil on October 12 in New Dehli, the two sides agreed to further develop the bilateral strategic partnership for the sake of their peoples, as well as for peace, stability and prosperity in the region and the world.

State President Trương Tấn Sang affirmed that Vietnam supports India’s bids to become a full member of the extended United Nations Security Council, and its efforts to establish a connection with ASEAN.
He also proposed the Indian Government speed up development projects and cooperation in the Mekong-Ganga Sub-region.
The Indian President thanked Vietnam for supporting her country’s “Look East Policy, and wanted Vietnam to continue to cooperate with and support India in strengthening its relations with ASEAN.
Earlier the same day, State President Truong Tan Sang received some senior Indian officials, including Lower House Speaker Meira Kumar, leaders of the Nationalist Congress Party, the Communist Party of India and the Communist Party of India and opposition parties.
At the reception for Lower House Speaker Meira Kumar, State President Sang said the two countries should continue to strengthen exchanges of delegations, especially from ministries, sectors, localities and civil organizations.
The Indian Speaker stressed that Vietnam has been regarded a pillar in India’s “Look East Policy”, affirming that Indian legislators will spare no effort to bolster the fine relations between the two countries in general and between the two top legislative bodies in particular.
Receiving Indian Defense Minister A.K.Antony, State President Truong Tan Sang said he welcomed India’s active participation in maintaining peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific.
For his part, the Indian Defense Minister said the two countries should maintain strategic dialogues on defense, strengthen delegation exchanges, and well implement cooperative deals that have been already signed by the two sides.
