Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai called for specific solutions to be worked out to lure more foreign direct investment (FDI) and official development assistance (ODA) for the country’s development.

Mr. Hai made the call on Wednesday in Ha Noi at a meeting with the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI).
The meeting oversaw the reality of foreign investment, FDI inflows and disbursement and the development of industrial parks and economic zones, and assessed FDI impacts on the national economy.
Deputy Prime Minister Hai said that in the changing world it is necessary to make breakthroughs in management, policy making, disbursement, and quality of ODA and FDI sources.
The MPI is in charge of reviewing and drafting amendments and supplements to documents on FDI attraction, policy orientations for the 2011-2020 period, renovating the operation of the ODA working group and speeding up the disbursement of the ongoing ODA projects.
According to statistics released by the MPI, as by October 20, 2011, Vietnam housed 13,435 FDI projects, capitalizing US $204.2 billion, to which the industrial sector accounted for 49.6%; real estate, 22.8%; construction, 5.9%; services, 5.8% and others, 3.6%.
Vietnam has worked with 51 bilateral and multilateral providers of ODA, who have so far committed US $64.322 billion, for such areas as agricultural development, rural area, poverty reduction, economic infrastructure, environmental protection, natural resources, institutional building, and human resource development./.
