Agro-forestry, aquatic exports hit US $5.9 billion
Vietnam’s agriculture, forestry and aquaculture export value in the first quarter of 2012 reached nearly US $5.9 billion.
Export of agricultural products is estimated at US $3.2 billion, down 14%, aquatic products, US $1.2 billion, up 9% and forestry items, US $922 million, up 6% in comparison with the same period last year.
In the period, 1.3 million of tons of rice were shipped abroad for US $681 million. Indonesia is Viet Nam’s largest rice buyer.
Việt Nam earned US $640 million and nearly US $1 billion from rubber and coffee, respectively.
Especially, the country sold abroad 29,000 tons of tea, worth more than US $41 million, up 14.5% in volumey and 17% in value against the same period last year.
Exports of Vietnam’s tea to Indonesia soared by three times, Saudi Arabia, 2.5 fold rise, Poland, up 40%, and the US, up 30%.
Cashew export reached 31,000 tons valued at US $222 million, a year-on-year increase of 6.6% in volume and 8.5% in value.
In the first quarter of 2012, Viet Nam exported 24,000 tons of peppercorns and gained US $164 million, up 29%.
Export value of Vietnam’s aquatic products to Japan, the Republic of Korea and Mexico saw sharp increases of 22.9%, 23.8% and 65.9%, respectively./.
