Vietnam exported over 50,000 tons of coffee to Indonesia in the first half of this year, up nearly eight times against the same period last year, said the Vietnam Coffee and Cocoa Association (Vicofa).
Indonesia imported more Vietnamese coffee because of shrinking productivity. Its demand for Vietnamese coffee is forecast to surge in the coming time.
“Indonesia is a leading coffee consumer in the world. It has a population of 200 million, and over 50% of its coffee output are consumed domestically,” said Vicofa Vice President Do Ha Nam.
Vietnam’s total coffee export was 1.1 million tons worth US$2.3 billion in the six-month period, up 26.5% in quantity and 20.4% in value, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. Two biggest coffee importers are Germany and the US.
