(MPI Portal) - A signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in investment promotion between the Ministry of Planning and Investment, the Socialist Republic of Republic of Viet Nam and Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) was held on Sep 25th, 2012.
The participants of the ceremony on the side of Vietnam included Minister of Planning and Investment Bui Quang Vinh, Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Dao Quang Thu, representatives of the units from the Ministry of Planning and Investment; as for Japan, included JCCI President Tadashi Okamura, Japan Ambassador in Vietnam Yasuaki Tanizaki and representatives of Japanese businesses.

On the basis of the Joint Initiative Vietnam and Japan signed between the two countries, the Japanese Embassy in Vietnam is supporting Vietnam to establish Industrial Strategy to 2020. Vietnam continues to develop specific policies for Japanese enterprises to invest in Vietnam. Accordingly, Minister Bui Quang Vinh expressed hope that Japanese small and medium enterprises would increase investment and long-term investment in Vietnam. This MOU would be the basis for the two sides to further strengthen investment cooperation for the mutual benefits.
The economic structure of Vietnam is moving towards industrialization. Vietnam has learned experience of many East Asian countries including Japan with the successful implementation of industrial policy from 1950.
The two sides agreed on five industrial sectors selected for investment cooperation which are electricity, electronics; food processing industry; shipbuilding; industrial machine manufacturing; energy industry. Other industries are also considered such as textiles, steel, motorcycles, cars.
In response to the Minister Bui Quang Vinh, Chairman of JCCI Tadashi Okamura sincerely thanked to the Government of Vietnam in general and the Ministry of Planning and Investment in particular in facilitating Japanese businesses to invest in Vietnam. The objectives of this visit of Japan is to tighten the relationship between Vietnam and Japan, and exchange information about the investment environment and mechanisms in Vietnam in order to further facilitate Japanese enterprises to invest in Vietnam. In the context of developing process of Vietnam on the direction of strong industrialization, Japan with advanced technology would contribute significantly to the economic development of Vietnam. This MOU was like a strong commitment from both sides on investment and development cooperation./.
