(MPI) – On March 4th 2016, at the headquarters of the MPI, Minister Bui Quang Vinh had a meeting with Mr. Thongsavanh Phomvihane, Lao PDR’s Ambassador to Vietnam on the occasion of his new position.

At the meeting, Ambassador Thongsavanh Phomvihane expressed his pleasure to receive the mission in Vietnam, the country has good traditional friendship with Laos. The Ambassador said that socio-economic development of Vietnam is progressing, life of people is improved, Vietnam’s position in the world has been raised. Vietnam is one of the leading investors of Laos. However, the bilateral cooperation is not in conformity with potential of the two countries. He affirmed to further promote cooperation in his term of mission to be commensurate with traditional relationship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties, two States and people of the two countries.
Congratulating Mr. Thongsavanh Phomvihane, newly appointed Lao Ambassador to Vietnam, Minister Bui Quang Vinh believed that the Ambassador would complete excellently the mission assigned, contributing to strengthening the traditional relationship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties, two States and people of the two countries. The Minister also highly appreciated the outcomes of the 38th Vietnam – Laos Intergovernmental Committee Meeting, that the two countries signed such significant documents as: Bilateral cooperation agreement for 2016-2020; Cooperation plan between the two Governments in 2016; Minutes of the 38th Vietnam – Laos Intergovernmental Committee Meeting.
As of now, Laos has licensed 413 projects of Vietnamese investors with total registered capital of over US$ 5.2 billion, total realized capital of US$ 1.4 billion. Two-way trade turnover has increased continuously, reaching an estimation of US$ 1.3 billion in 2015./.
