Vietnam, Cambodia discuss bilateral ties
Deputy PM, FM Pham Binh Minh and his Cambodian counterpart Hor Namhong on Monday reviewed the realization of cooperative agreements and deliberated ways to beef up the relations between Viet Nam and Cambodia during the 14th meeting of the Joint Committee for Economic, Cultural, Scientific and Technological Cooperation in Ho Chi Minh City.

The two sides noted with pleasure recent development in economic, trade and investment ties. The two-way trade volume was estimated at US$3.3 billion last year and reached US$2.5 in the first eight months of 2015.

By the end of 2014, Viet Nam poured US$3.46 billion in 167 projects in Cambodia, statistics show.

Both countries have also stepped up cooperation in education and training, telecommunication, agriculture, forestry, tourism, finance, banking, and energy.

The two Deputy PMs agreed to further strengthen bilateral ties, especially in improving the quality of training, accelerating economic, trade and investment linkages and work towards the signing of new cooperative agreements.

They affirmed their resolve to soon complete the land border demarcation and landmark planting in order to build the borderline of peace, stability and cooperation

The two countries agreed to coordinate closely to seek and return remains of Vietnamese voluntary soldiers who fell down during the wartime in Cambodia.

The two Deputy PMs affirmed the importance of protecting and using Mekong water resources in a sustainable manner, foster cooperation among GMS countries and within such frameworks of ASEAN, ASEM and other international forums.

Deputy PM, FM Minh thanked the Government of Cambodia for protecting the legitimate rights of Vietnamese in accordance with Cambodian laws and on the basis of the friendship between the two countries.

Meanwhile, the Cambodian Deputy PM, FM extended thanks to Viet Nam for its practical and comprehensive support and assistance over the past time.

The next meeting of the Joint Committee will be held in Cambodia in 2016./.
