Farm product exports to China surge

Export of Vietnamese agricultural products to China increased strongly in the first two months of this year, and it will continue to rise if Vietnamese firms focus more on their products’ quality, experts said.

According to the latest statistics from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Viet Nam exported 677,000 tons of rice in January-February, worth $310 million, up 68.2% in volume against the same period last year. The volume of rice exported to China accounted for 34.7% of the total.

Viet Nam exported 179,000 tons of rubber totaling $518 million in the two-month period, up 16.6% in value. The volume and value of rubber exported to China surged 31.7% and nearly 36.9% respectively.

Some 33,000 tons of cashew nuts, worth $204 million, were exported, up 35.5%. The two biggest cashew nut export markets of Viet Nam in the January-February period were China and the US, with respective market shares of 24.8% and nearly 20.9%.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Viet Nam earned over $4.8 billion from exported farm, forest and seafood products from January to February, up 31.5% on-year./.
