(MPI Portal) – In the afternoon of December 13th, at the headquarter of Planning and Investment, Deputy Minister Nguyen The Phuong had a meeting with Mr. S.Shermatov, Deputy Minister of Economicsof Republic of Uzbekistan.

Uzbekistan is a country whose economy is mainly focused on consumer goods industry, as well asa great producer of natural gas, coal, copper, oil, silver and uranium. As for trade, Uzbekistan has demand of importing tropical agricultural products (tea, coffee, rubber), foodstuff, crafts, apparel from Vietnam, and has ability of providing Vietnam with fertilizers, cotton, nonferrous metals, machinery and spare parts.
Since Vietnam and Uzbekistan established diplomatic relation in 1992, the two countries have signed many framework agreements such as Agreement on economic - trade cooperation(1994); Agreement on avoidance of double taxation (1996); Agreement on Promotion and Protection of Investment (1996); Agreement on establishment of Vietnam - Uzbekistan Intergovernmental Commission on economic – trade and science - technologycooperation (1996). They are premises for promoting investment cooperation between the two sides.
Looking back to Uzbekistan and Vietnam relationship after 21 years of diplomatic relation, Deputy Minister S.Shermatov said that bilateral relation is secular, however, ithas not been commensurate with the potential of the two countries. He mentioned that today Uzbekistan specially pays attention to develop economic – tradecooperation between the two countries, Uzbekistan has advantage of oil gas, fertilizer, cotton, seafood.
Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister Nguyen The Phuong expressed that with the interest of the two Governments, economic – tradecooperation between the two countries would develop. He said with role and duties, Ministry of Planning and Investment is ready to create favorable conditions for enterprises of the two countries to invest. Deputy Minister Nguyen The Phuong addedtourism is also a potential cooperation sectorwhich is should be exploited between the two countries.
At the end of the meeting, on behalf of the Ministryof Planning and Investment’sLeadership, Deputy MinisterNguyen The Phuong pledged to further promote economic - trade cooperation and investment between the two countries./.
