Japan to import more Vietnamese fruits

Vietnamese fruits are making its presence felt in the Japanese market at a trade promotion programme held within the 10th Viet Nam festival in Tokyo.

The festival wasorganisedto celebrate the 45th founding anniversary of the two countries’ diplomatic relations (1973-2018)

The event offers Vietnamese businesses opportunities to promote their exports in the Japanese and other Asian markets.

Besides this, it is an opportunity for Viet Nam’s firms to develop new export items, sign valuable export contracts, and promote a wide range of Vietnamese food and agricultural products.

TradeCounsellorand head of the Vietnamese Embassy’s Trade OfficeTaDucMinh saidthe country has currently shipped dragon fruits, mango and banana to Japan, with all of the fruits meeting Japanese food safety requirements.

Vietnamese firms are advised to ensure food safety and quality, Minh said, adding the export of agricultural products to Japan is also an opportunity for Viet Nam’s farm produce to access other foreign markets.

President ofVientCo. LtdHidekatsuIshikawasaid in 2017, his company imported an average of about 200 containers of fruits from VietNam worth up to 500 million JPY (US$4.6 million) to Japan, adding thatVientwants to introduce other high-quality fruits of Viet Nam to Japan’s consumers.

It takes only 6 days to ship Vietnamese fruits to Japan, helping to secure their freshness. Negotiations onlycheeexport to Japan are underway. Japanese importers have also showed an interest in Vietnameselongan,rambutan, andmangosteen.

On display are a variety of products like vegetables, fruits, seafood, beverages, spices, confectionary, dairy products, canned food, and machinery for the food industry.

The Viet Nam festival was first held in Japan in 2008. This year’s event attracted an estimated 150,000 visitors./.
