Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh addresses the launch ceremony of the Global Methane Pledge

Parties signing the Pledge agreed to take national-level, voluntary actions to contribute to reducing global methane emissions by at least 30% by 2030, using a 2020 baseline. Scientists believe this could eliminate 0.2°C of warming by 2050.

In his remarks at the ceremony, PM Pham thanked U.S. President Joe Biden and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen for inviting him to this important event.

Appreciating the Global Methane Pledge initiative, PM Pham pointed out that methane results from unscientific and unsustainable production, use, and waste treatment, leading to global warming. Given this, all people should stay united and unanimous and join hands to reduce methane emissions.

This is a global issue which requires a global approach, emphasize Pham, adding that as it affects every people, an all-people approach is needed.

The PM called on developed countries, especially the U.S. and the European Union, to share and support developing and poor nations with climate finance, human resource training, and government to help them in their transition to green, circular and low-carbon economy.

The same day, PM Pham also attended an event to endorse the Glasgow Leaders’ Declaration on Forest and Land Use.

More than 100 leaders took a landmark step forward at a convening of world leaders on forests by committing to halt and reverse forest loss and land degradation by 2030.

Together, they support 85% of the world’s forests, an area of over 13 million square miles which absorbs around one third of global CO2 released from burning fossil fuels each year./.
