Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Indonesia's coordinating minister for maritime affairs and investment, has stressed that the country’s clean energy transition is not only aimed at reducing carbon emissions but also promoting the development of green industries.

Speaking at the plenary session of the International Sustainability Forum (ISF) 2024 in Jakarta on September 5, the minister said that to sustain and accelerate the transition, Indonesia needs global cooperation and investment. This approach will allow Indonesia to achieve economic growth, energy security and climate change mitigation without compromising other important sectors.

According to Luhut, the Indonesian Government has established a national energy transition task force to implement initiatives that will bring the country closer to its energy transition goals.

Indonesia has identified 400 priority projects in the power sector that are ready to receive funding from the International Partnership Group (IPG) and the Glasgow Finance Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ) under the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP).

Luhut affirmed that every country has different capabilities, and limitations when it comes to decarbonisation. However, he emphasised that developing countries must continue to ensure growth and emission reduction.

The International Sustainability Forum (ISF) 2024 took place in Indonesia from September 5-6, bringing together senior officials, international organisations, environmental experts, and over 100 businesses participating in workshops, exhibitions, and product showcases.

The event features 10 plenary sessions, 15 thematic sessions, and high-level dialogues focusing on energy transition, biodiversity, nature conservation, sustainable living, and the blue economy./.
