The Russian Finance Ministry has denied reports that Russia had signed an agreement to write off the bulk of Cambodia's 1.5 billion-USD debt left from the Soviet era, local media reported on December 12.
The response was made following a statement by the Cambodian National Assembly’s Committee of Finance, Banking and Audits Chairman Cheam Yeap, who said on December 9 that “ Russia has cancelled 70 percent of the debt that the Kingdom owes.”
It is expected that the next round of negotiations on settling Cambodia's debt to Russia would be held early next year in Moscow./.
