The UK’s BP Group’s withdrawal from an offshore oil and gas exploration project in Vietnam stems from commercial and technical reasons, said Vietnam’s foreign ministry spokesman.
Spokesman Le Dung made his comments in reply on Mar. 21 to a correspondent’s query asking about the country’s reaction to the BP Group’s decision to abandon exploring for oil and gas on blocks 05.2 and 05.3.
“As far as we know, the BP group is negotiating with the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group about its intention to withdrawal from exploring for offshore oil and gas,” Dung said.
He also confirmed that the aforementioned blocks lie within Vietnam’s economic privilege zone and continental shelf, and fall completely within the country’s sovereign rights and jurisdiction.
