RoK helps Vietnam in seaport declarations procedures
The Republic of Korea will help Vietnam build a one-stop-shop (OSS) mechanism for seaport customs, thus strengthening international trade cooperation and monitoring the circulation of goods globally.
Korea Logistics Network (KL-Net) Deputy Director Kate Mun stated this at a seminar on IT applications for seaport declarations procedures jointly held by the Vietnam National Maritime Administration (VNMA) under the Ministry of Transport and the Republic of Korea ’s Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs in Hanoi on August 11.
According to VNMA Deputy Director Tran Thanh Minh, Vietnam now has 36 seaports, which handled 196 million tonnes of cargo in 2008 and are expected to receive 225 million tonnes this year.
This shows that there is a large potential for developing the seaport system, he added.
Minh said that to facilitate goods circulation through seaports, Vietnam has gradually completed a process for an e-customs declaration procedure, under which relevant sides, including customs and business, can know exactly the time and location of goods circulation on sea routes via the Internet.
The seminar also helped Vietnam implement the Convention on Facilitation of International Maritime Traffic, minimise time and costs for enterprises and boost the competitiveness of the maritime sector./.
