Vietnam-Myanmar trade fair opens in Yangon
A Vietnam-Myanmar international trade fair, aimed at promoting bilateral trade between the two countries, opened in the Myanmar Convention Centre in Yangon on Nov. 19.
At the four-day trade fair, 52 Vietnamese businesses are displaying their products, ranging from pharmaceuticals to cosmetics, food and foodstuffs, garments and footwear, electronics, stationery, household utensils, construction materials, fertilisers, rubber and furniture.
Meanwhile, 10 companies from the host country are exhibiting fisheries products, consumer goods, traditional handicrafts and pictures made from gems.
Vietnam is currently Myanmar’s 16th largest importer, mainly buying agro-forestry products, seafood and electronic components, while Myanmar imports steel products, electronic equipment, pharmaceuticals, industrial products, chemicals, computers and accessories, plastics, cosmetics and machine oil.
Official statistics show that two-way trade between Vietnam and Myanmar reached 60 million USD in the first nine months of this year. In 2008, the value of bilateral trade was 108.2 million USD, a year-on-year increase of 11.27 percent./.
