Deputy PM Nguyen Thien Nhan, who is leading a Vietnamese government delegation to the US, on Monday in Washington D.C. met and worked with officials of the Department of State and the Department of the Interior as well as representatives of many leading enterprises there.

In his talks with US Under Secretary for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs Judith McHale and Assistant Secretary of the Interior for Water and Science Anne Castle, Deputy PM Nguyen Thien Nhan and the host politicians were convinced that the cooperation between Vietnam and the US will be further promoted, especially in science, technology and response to climate change.
Deputy PM Nhan hoped that the US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations and the Department of State to continue backing relations with Vietnam and persuading the US Government to early grant the Generalized System of Preferences Statusand open its market for made-in-Vietnam goods.
He suggested the Department of State support the implementation of cooperation initiatives in the Mekong Sub-region, offer more scholarships to Vietnamese students, and create favorable conditions for education and training institutes of the two countries to share experience.
Mr. Nhan also asked the US Department of the Interior to help Vietnam respond to climate change and promote scientific and technological cooperation.
He expected the US to take specific measures to mitigate aftermaths of the war, including assisting victims of Agent Orange/dioxin, increasing funds and disbursing projects on environment detoxification in Vietnam.

Under Secretary Judith McHale lauded the completion and approval of reports made by the Task Force for education.
The reports propose specific directions and measures to place education and training ties between the two countries on a new plane.
Meanwhile Assistance Secretary of Interior Anne Castle pledged to map out solutions for stronger Mekong Sub-region cooperation and research activities against climate change and sea water rising.

In the afternoon of the same day, meeting with representatives from 20 leading IT corporations in the US, Deputy PM Nhan reiterated that the Government of Vietnam always offers best conditions for foreign investors to do long-term business in Vietnam in various fields, including IT.
He revealed that Vietnam is sparing no effort to become an IT power in 2020 and realize large projects on IT and education.
