A seminar to promote investment opportunities between Vietnam and Brazil in the agricultural sector was held in Ho Chi Minh City on September 30.
The Brazilian Ambassador to Vietnam Joao De Mendoca Lima Neto attended the seminar along with representatives from the Vietnamese and Brazilian businesses communities.
At the seminar, Brazilian agricultural specialists gave a briefing on the potential and strengths of their country’s farming and food industry, especially meat and dairy products.
Many businesses from both countries held meetings to look for investment opportunities and potential partners.
According to Nguyen The Hung, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) in Ho Chi Minh City, with a population of 198 million, the Brazilian market has a large purchasing power.
Brazil is also the world’s largest coffee and sugarcane producer as well as a leading exporter of cocoa, peas, orange juice, tobacco, forestry products and tropical fruits, Hung said, adding that agricultural exports make up 35 percent of the country’s total export value.
In 2008, two-way trade between Vietnam and Brazil reached over 556 million USD, including 138 million USD from Vietnamese exports.
Vietnam mainly exports seafood, vegetables, garments and handicrafts to Brazil while importing wheat, milk and dairy products, wood, pharmaceuticals, chemicals and plastic from the South American country./.
