The World Economic Forum (WEF) Committee on March 11 told leaders of Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) that the city has been chosen to be the main host of the 19th WEF East Asia Meeting themed “Rethinking Asia's Leadership Agenda” lasting from June 6-7.

According to Mr. Sushant Palakurthi Rao, WEF Director in charge of Asia, Vietnam will become the first developing country in East Asia to hold such a meeting. The reason, he said, is that the country has showed an amazing strength in recovering its economy from the financial crisis, while continuing it economic growth, turning into a key factor of the regional and the world economy.
Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Trung Tin said the meeting will offer opportunities for Vietnamese enterprises to exchange working experience with their international partners. It will also help promote the city’s images to the outside world.
Up to 500 economic leaders from ASEAN countries, Australia, New Zealand, India, Northeast Asia, the EU, the US, experts, scholars, international organization leaders are expected to attend the meeting.
With a big population, Vietnam is an attractive destination for investors in the region. And HCMC has the country’s most dynamic economy./.
