Vietnam is taking the lead in the pilot project of One United Nations and the initial results here have gone far compared to what happening in other countries, said the Administrator of the United Nations Development Program during her meeting with Deputy PM Pham Gia Khiem in Ha Noi.

Mrs. Helen Clark appraised the Vietnamese Government’s efforts to implement the One UN Initiative and hoped that Vietnam will send a strong message of the need to reform the organization to countries all over the world.
The Southeast Asian country’s lessons gained through the implementation of the Initiative, realization of the Millennium Goals, particularly poverty reduction, international integration, or foreign investment attraction, would be valuable experience for other developing economies, stated Mrs. Helen Clark.
She said that UNDP has a widespread network of representative offices which may play as an “ideas bank” for Vietnam to consult and share thoughts of how to develop future policies relating to economic development, climate change, and other issues.
The UNDP Administrator also called on Vietnam to voice a strong support for a global agreement on climate change at the related UN Conference, scheduled to take place this year’s end in Mexico. If a deal is passed, it would be easier for Vietnam to draw external financial resources and technical assistance to address the urgent and thorny threat.
Praising for the role of UNDP in Vietnam through specific projects and programs during the past years, Deputy PM Khiem hoped that the UNDP Office here will continue to help the country to enhance law-making capacity.
Recently, the UNDP Office has shifted to assisting law-making capacity instead of concrete projects. The two sides are also developing a joint working program to aid Vietnam during the period of 2012-2016./.
