On the sidelines of the 43rd ASEAN Foreign Ministers Meetings, foreign ministers of Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar, Thailand, Japan, and Laos’ Foreign Minister Assistant agreed to strengthen cooperation and relations at the third Mekong–Japan Ministers Meeting on July 21.

Delegates to the meeting focused on reviewing the implementation of the commitments of involved countries in the first Mekong–Japan Summit, which were specified in the Tokyo Declaration and the 63-Point Action Plan.
The meeting also touched upon new developments in the Mekong-Japan cooperation as well as plans to stimulate this structure. Countries in the Mekong region highly appreciated Japan’s initiative of “A decade toward the Green Mekong.”
The ministers also discussed several international and regional issues of common concern, such as the Korean peninsula, the United Nations reform, Myanmar, and the likes.
They approved a Chairman Statement which affirms determination to strengthen cooperation, and relations.
The participants agreed to organize the 2nd Mekong-Japan Summit on the sidelines of ASEAN Summit scheduled in October in Vietnam and the fourth ministers meeting in 2011 in Japan.
