PM Nguyen Tan Dung hosted a reception on Thursday evening to US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton who is in Hanoi for the ongoing ASEAN meetings and the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF).
Both the guest and the host took the occasion to share their opinions on ways to further promote friendship and multifaceted cooperation between the two countries, focusing on economy, trade, investment, HIV/AIDS control, MIA and other issues of common concern.
Pleased with the flourishing Vietnam-US ties, PM Dung suggested the two sides enhance the implementation of the inked agreements on cooperation in climate change combat, education, science and technology, and building a US university in the Mekong Delta.
He also expected that the two sides should early finalize negotiations for the Bilateral Investment Treaty (BIT) and the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) Agreement while asking the US to grant Vietnam with the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP).
Vietnam asked the US Government to impose no barrier on Vietnamese exports in order to facilitate bilateral cooperation not only in economy but also other fields.
“The two sides should discuss the establishment of rapidly-growing economic cooperation for mutual benefits, minimizing disputes. First and foremost, the two sides should review all trade disputes and find out package solutions for them,” said PM Dung.
The Vietnamese PM highly spoke of the US Government and people’s assistance for Vietnam’s HIV/AIDS prevention and control while urging the US to give greater humanitarian aid to Agent Orange victims here.
