National Assembly (NA) Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong and his entourage arrived in Ottawa, Canada, on September 3 (local time) to partake in the first meeting of parliamentary speakers from G20 countries.

It is reported that the meeting targets to boost economic growth and spur dialogues among countries for global economic stability with three specific agendas on cooperation in food and foodstuff production and distribution, new models of peace and security, and economic and financial models that could foster global economic stability.
At the invitation of Speaker of the Canadian Senate Noel A.Kinsella, Vietnamese NA Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong, Chairman of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly, made the working visit to Canada.
Right after the opening session, Mr. Nguyen Phu Trong delivered a keynote speech on strategic coordination for production and distribution of food and foodstuff.
To deal with the challenge of global food security, NA Chairman Trong suggested each and every country should fulfill their commitments and action plans at both national and international scales, underlining that the legislative branch in G20 countries plays important role in this process.
The Vietnamese NA Head also called upon further coordination between legislative and executive branches to map out and realize strategies and national action plans on food security while combining the tasks of food security and anti-climate change.
Mr. Trong took the occasion to share Viet Nam’s experience of agricultural development to ensure food security, highlighted his support for liberalization and fee distribution of agricultural products and proposed the necessity to establish a warning system of food crisis./.
