A decade since its establishment, the ASSA becomes a top forum for social security cooperation in the region with the participation of 21 organizations from eight ASEAN member states and other two observatory organizations.
Participants to the meeting focused their discussions on recovering social insurance bad debts.
ASSA member organizations take an important role in the ASEAN countries as they help their Governments to deploy social security policies, said Vietnamese Deputy PM Nguyen Sinh Hung at the opening ceremony.
As the biggest social security forum in the region, the ASSA needs to help safeguard social security for ASEAN citizens, especially after the recent global financial crisis and economic downturn, Mr. Hung continued.
The Vietnamese Government has long combined social security with poverty reduction programs, considering this as top solution for sustainable development, stated the host leader.
The Laws on health insurance and social insurance, and the unemployment insurance policy which took effect in 2009, as Mr. Hung said, are vivid examples of the Vietnamese Government’s strong commitment to people’s social security.
The Vietnamese Deputy PM hoped ASSA member organizations to speed up cooperation and information exchange to perform their utmost in their countries and ASEAN as well.
