Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva on Sunday said his government plans to raise daily minimum wages for unskilled workers again to allow them to cope with rising prices of consumer goods.
The Abhisit government has just raised the wages at the beginning of January, which vary from province to province.
But the premier did not say in his weekly national televised address when the government would raise the wages again.
Currently, the southern province of Phuket, known for its high cost of living as a world-famous beach resort, enjoys the highest daily minimum wage of 221 baht (7.22 U.S. dollars).
Bangkok and five other adjoining provinces follow with 215 baht (7.03 dollars), while workers in the northern province of Payao are paid the least of 159 baht (5.19 dollars).
