Agro-forestry-aquatic exports increase sharply in first two months

Agro-forestry and aquatic export earned US $1.5 billion in February of 2011, raising Việt Nam’s total export turnover in the first two months to US $3.6 billion.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), in February, rice export rose considerably to 600,000 tons, earning US $310 million, bringing the export turnover in the first two months to US $592 million, up 44.5% compared to the same period last year.
The export of coffee in the first two months is estimated at 225,000 tons, worth US $438 million, a year-on-year growth of 2.2% in volume and 40.4% in value. Belgium, the US and Italy are the largest importers of Việt Nam’s coffee.
The export value of tea, cashew and pepper also rose to US $32 million (up 34.3%), US $166 million (up 55.2%) and US $53 million (up 23.4%), respectively.
Meanwhile, thanks to the increase of exports to the US, Japan and EU (a year-on-year up 30%), the aquatic export value in February reached US $400 million, raising its total export volume of the first two months to US $835 million, or an yearly increase of 54.4%.
In the same period, the export value of forestry products reached US $594 million, up 18.6%./.
