The European Commission (EC) has recognized 53 more Vietnamese enterprises which are eligible for exporting aquaculture products to the European Union.
Earlier, the EC approved a list of 330 Vietnamese aquaculture export enterprises to the European market.
The decision was issued after the Vietnamese aquaculture exporters underwent the EU’s strict quality examinations.
Vietnamese aquaculture exporters have recently faced with number of challenges, including the US’s decision to raise anti-dumping tax against Vietnamese Tra fish to 130% in March, wrong information on Tra fish in different foreign countries’ mass media, and the WWF’s decision to include Tra fish to the Red List in 6 European countries.
Last year, Vietnam shipped abroad 1.353 million tons of aquaculture products, earning nearly US $5.034 billion compared to the preset target of US $4.5 billion, or an increase of 11.3% and 18.4% in terms of quantity and value against 2009, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).
In the first two months of this year, the aquaculture export value was estimated at US $835 million, up 54.4% against the same period last year.
Vietnam can maintain the aquaculture export record of US $5 billion this year thanks to the reduction of supply in some countries.
PM Nguyen Tan Dung recently approved an aquaculture development project until 2020 with an aim to raise its output to over 4.5 million tons and create some 3.5 million jobs.
