Foreign investors eye infrastructure investment in Indonesia
The Indonesia International Infrastructure Conference and Exhibition (IIICE) from April 12-14 concluded on Thursday with foreign investors' commitment to developing infrastructure in the country.
Suryo Bambang Sulistiyo, chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) said that the commitments cover sectors of water, toll road and power plant.
"The foreign commitments are from India, China, South Korea and Japan. And, the largest commitment on power plant is from Japan," Sulistiyo told reporters without elaborating any figure.
According to Sulistiyo, the commitment was based on conducive investment climate combined with right moment and preparedness of businessmen.
He said that the climate has been lasting since a few years ago.
"In 2010, foreign direct investment was twice compared to 2009, from 13 billion U.S. dollars to 23 billion," he said.
Before the closing ceremony, three memorandums of understanding (MoUs) were signed.
KADIN of North Sumatra province signed an MoU with Daecheong Construction Co. Ltd of South Korea on power hydro plant, mining, railway transportation, construction technology and other potential resources investment in the province.
There was a power purchase agreement between state power company Perusahaan Listrik Negara and PT Wampu Electric Power, a consortium of Korea Midland Power and Daewoo Engineering Company on the construction of Wampu Hydro Power Plant of 3x15 megawatts at North Sumatra province.
