Spain’s Peace and Development (PyD) organization has helped the central province of Quang Nam carry out a project on socio-economic development combined with gender issues.
A cooperation document to this effect was signed between the local People’s Committee and PyD in on April 27. The €3.6 million project which also covers Cambodia and East Timor was designed to ensure the implementation of socio-economic rights and poverty reduction through a gender approach and improvement of social equality.
It covers improving living conditions of project beneficiaries, with a focus on the most disadvantaged, through economic initiatives in combination with the gender issue, promoting sustainable rural development and involvement of the beneficiaries and relevant agencies and branches, and increasing initiatives on gender fairness, gender equality and domestic violence reduction.
The project targets promoting socio-economic development in rural areas, supporting for development of traditional trades, helping increase incomes, reducing domestic violence and raising women’s role in the society.
In Quang Nam, the project will be carried out till 2014 in 10 communes of Duy Xuyen, Hiep Đuc and Phuoc Sơn districts.
Established in 1991, PyD is a non-governmental organization. It helped carry out a project on enhancement of capacity and promotion of economic, micro-credit opportunities and gender equality plans in Vietnam from 2006-2010./.
