State President receives Australian Governor - General

State President Nguyen Minh Triet and Australian Governor -General Quentin Bryce, Hanoi, May 9, 2011
The Vietnam-Australia Action Plan for the 2010-2013 period has served as an important foundation for the two countries to launch other specific cooperative projects in the future, high-ranking Vietnamese and Australian leaders affirmed.

The affirmation was made during the meeting between Vietnamese State President Nguyen Minh Triet and the visiting Governor-General of Australia, Quentin Bryce, in Hanoi on Monday.

State President Triet said he hoped the Governor-General’s visit to Vietnam would help strengthen the comprehensive partnership between the two nations.
Governor-General Quentin Bryce pledged that Australia will expand cooperation with Vietnam in the fields of economics, trade, investment, education and training, healthcare, national defense and security, and that it will prioritize official development assistance for the Southeast Asian country.
She also stressed the importance of the two countries’ cooperation in culture, tourism and people-to-people exchanges.
In their talks, the Vietnamese President asserted that Australia-funded projects have been carried out efficiently in Vietnam and contributed actively to the country’s socio-economic development and its efforts to improve the people’s living conditions.
He took the occasion to thank Australia for providing Vietnamwith AUD 160 million for the building of Cao Lanh Bridge and for supporting the Southeast Asian country in the campaign to win the UNESCO’s recognition of the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long as one of the world heritages.
Governor-General of Australia Quentin Bryce started her seven-day State visit to Vietnam on May 8 at the invitation of Vietnamese State President Nguyen Minh Triet./.
