Vietnam Airlines has announced a plan to launch direct flights using Boeing 777s to the United Kingdom (UK)’s airport of Gatwick from December 8.
It plans to conduct seven direct flights a week between Vietnam and the UK by 2014.
Mr. Pham Ngoc Minh, CEO of Vietnam Airlines, said: “That becoming the first and only carrier to launch direct flights between Vietnam and the UK amid difficulties faced by the world economy in general and the world’s aviation industry in particular has indicated the great effort and determination of Vietnam Airlines in fostering strong cooperative ties between the two countries.”
This direct air route will make London the 4th gateway in Europe, after Paris, Frankfurt and Moscow, directly tapped by Vietnam Airlines, and it reaffirms Vietnam’s status as the key gateway to Indochina, Minh said.
About 46km from London, Gatwick Airport is among the 10 biggest airports in the world. It receives over 32 million passengers a year./.
