Cuba finished 2010 with a fiscal deficit of about 2.29 billion pesos (about 86.4 million U.S. dollars), or 3.6 percent of gross domestic product (GDP), Finance Minister Lina Pedraza told the parliament Thursday.
She considered the figure "positive" as it was an improvement over the 5.6 percent in 2009 and 6.7 percent in 2008.
President of the National Assembly Economic Commission Osvaldo Martinez said that the figures show a positive trend in the management of Cuba's central budget in recent years.
The Cuban parliament is holding sessions from Thursday to Sunday, before starting meetings of the seventh ordinary session of its seventh legislature next Monday.
Issues such as food production and safety, the Highway Safety Code and the fight against vandalism in the rail system and communications will be discussed.
Pedraza said Cuba's net income was around 19.7 billion pesos (about 742 million dollars) in the first half of 2011, while the fiscal deficit was 203 million pesos (about 7.66 million dollars).
