A joint venture for processing tuna between Vietnam and Japan will be set up soon in the coastal province of Phu Yen.
A framework agreement to this effect was signed in Phu Yen last March by representatives of the local People’s Committee and Director of Japan’s Rakuichi Broadband Solution Co, Ltd. Kensaku Matsumoto.
The company will have a charter capital of US $2 million. It expects to annually ship 2,000 – 3,000 tons of tuna bought from local fishermen.
So far this year, Phu Yen province has caught over 5,200 tons of tuna. About 24 - 30% the caught tuna are exported to the European Union, the US and northeast Asia, earning over US $10 million per year.
