The 19th Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders’ Meeting officially opened in Honolulu, Hawaii on November 13.

Speaking at the ceremony, State President Truong Tan Sang highly valued APEC’s general orientation set for this year as “Strengthening Regional Economic Integration and Expanding Trade”.
He said APEC needs to take an overall and comprehensive approach and prompt actions at national, regional and global levels to avoid a new recession while still asserting its role in the region.
The State President also suggested APEC giving priorities to projects which transform development models, narrow development gaps, transfer technology, train human resources, upgrade infrastructure, reduce poverty and strengthen regional integration.
Vietnam is working to ensure energy national security towards using this source of energy economically and effectively and promoting clean production technology and clean energy, the State President affirmed.
In a discussion on “management and competition reforms”, he suggested APEC integrating the tenor with the implementation of Bogor Goals and the development strategy of APEC.
He said Vietnam regards administrative reforms and management as the crucial measures to restructure the economy and transform growth model in a sustainable and efficient manner.
The same day, the State President and leaders of APEC held dialogues with the APEC Business Advisory Council regarding regional economic integration, sustainable development, small and medium businesses (SMEs) and job creation.
State President Sang stressed the role of SMEs in the development of APEC member economies. He also asked ABAC and APEC to create favorable conditions for SMEs and individuals to integrate and join the global chain and production network by providing financial assistance and technology renovation, training human resources and reforming administrative procedures./.
