Ukraine has sent to the World Trade Organization a note asking for a future opportunity to review its tariff commitments in the framework of this organization, Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade Volodymyr Bandurov said.
"We have exercised our right to membership of the WTO, which provides for the procedure of review of tariff rates. We have sent a relevant note to the WTO, so that in the next three years we had the opportunity to request for reconsideration of our commitments on the tariff issue," he said, UKRINFORM reports.
According to Bandurov, having become a WTO member, Ukraine pledged to build its trade policy based on international rules and regulations, as well as got access to the opportunities vested in the member countries of the organization.
The official also emphasized the fact that, "despite all the positive factors of Ukraine's accession to the WTO, the global financial crisis has negatively affected most sectors of the Ukrainian economy, and not all sectors have been able to get out of the crisis./."
