The Commissioner expressed the wish on Wednesday in Ha Noi during his meeting with Vietnamese Deputy PM Hoang Trung Hai.
The EU, said Mr. Andris Piebalgs, is reconsidering its ODA strategy for recipient countries. He went on to say that although the bloc is suffering from economic difficulties, it will not alter ODA commitments to Vietnam.
Deputy PM Hoang Trung Hai warmly welcomed the visit of Mr. Andris Piebalgs, the first EU Development Commissioner to Vietnam in the context when the two sides are enjoying robust developments in economic, trade and political aspects.
The host leader took the occasion to thank the EU’s support for Vietnam.
Vietnam would pave favorable ways for EU-sponsored projects on infrastructure and social welfare to operate effectively, he added.
The two sides hoped to strengthen exchanges of high-level delegations, push up the negotiations on a partnership and cooperation agreement (PCA) and start talks on a free trade agreement and other investment projects./.
