(MPI Portal) – On October 17th, Minister of Planning and Investment Bui Quang Vinh had a meeting with Mr. Aiuba Cuereneia, Minister of Planning and Development of Mozambique.

Mr. Aiuba Cuereneia said at the meeting that Mozambique had the potential investment cooperation with Vietnam in the fields of agriculture, fishery, mineral resources, civil industry, construction, energy and public infrastructure. In recent years, the Government of Mozambique has focused on poverty reduction, food security, actively encouraging foreign investment. Thus, Mozambique has achieved success in economic reform (in recent years, the average growth was about 6.8%/year).
From 2006 to 2010, trade turnover between Vietnam - Mozambique increased by over 3 times (from US$13.83 to US$ 45.35 million). In 2011, two-way trade was estimated to reach US$ 90 million, in which Vietnam had a trade surplus with the main export items of rice, textiles, and imports of cotton, wood, cashew materials. Two-way trade in QI/2012 reached nearly US$20 million, in which Vietnam had trade surplus mainly with metal and electrical wire.
As for telecommunications, Vietnam has 01 investment project of Viettel Global Investment Joint Stock Company to Mozambique with a total investment abroad of US$ 493.79 million, of which Viettel contributed US$ 345.65 million with a goal to build, operate and exploit telecommunications and information services in Mozambique.
Besides the telecommunications sector, Minister Bui Quang Vinh wished that the two countries would further strengthen cooperation in various fields, particularly agriculture, oil and gas. The Minister added that the project to build Centre of research, agricultural encourage and rice production in Zambezia with total area of over 42 hectares, worth about US$6 million investment is being implemented to help provide basic rice breeds for production in Mozambique.
In terms of oil and gas exploitation, there is a project being studied on the basis of a cooperation agreement between the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (PVN) with Mozambique National Oil and Gas Corporation (ENH) and the Mozambique Investment Management Agency (SPI) in the oil and gas sector.
At the end of the meeting, Minister Aiuba Cuereneia and Minister Bui Quang Vinh hoped that the two countries would continue to promote, expand cooperation for mutual development, creating a solid foundation for an increasingly development in relations between the two countries. /.
