(MPI Portal) – Minister of Planning and Investment Bui Quang Vinh had a meeting with the delegation from the International Friendship Exchange Council (IFEC) led by Mr. President Matsuzaka Ken on November 04th.

The meeting focused on five sectors which were mutually agreed to develop within the framework of Vietnam's Industrialization Strategy 2020 supported by Japan, include: electrical and electronic manufacturing; food processing; agricultural machines production; energy production and saving; and automobile manufacture.
In which, the Japanese side expressed special interest in a number of areas related to food processing, ship building, environmental engineering technology, automobiles manufacture, steel fabrication, crude oil mining and processing technology and agriculture. Mr. Matsuzawa emphasized oil exploitation should not only focus on export but also enhance the petroleum processing industry to bring greater added value, and the connection between the oil businesses to meet the increasing demand for this item.
In addition, there are different opinions from the two sides in the field of automobile and motorcycle manufacture. The Japanese side proposed development should start from motorcycle manufacturers; however, Minister Bui Quang Vinh said Vietnam wanted to limit the number of motorcycles taking part in transportation and encourage export-oriented production. The reason is that the number of motor traffic in Vietnam is too big while the quality of transport infrastructure is poor leading to high risk for traffic accidents and traffic jams in urban areas.
In steel production still exists many difficulties caused by steel production structure, in which building steel production is over-focused while high quality and special steel industry have not been paid enough attention. Therefore, the structural adjustment of steel production is essential for the sector’s development. Furthermore, too many oil processing projects approved extensively and ineffectively are an obstacle to the development of oil processing industry in Vietnam.
Related to the agricultural sector of Vietnam, Minister Bui Quang Vinh said that it would be a mistake if Vietnam just emphasized the goal of becoming an industrialized country by 2020 while neglecting the agricultural sector which is an advantage as well as plays an important role in the Vietnam industry structure. Consequently, the two sides agreed that the goal of modernization and mechanization of agriculture should be focused along with the resolution of the labor restructuring.
Highly appreciated the relationship between Vietnam and Japan as well as the relationship between MPI and IFEC, Mr. Minister hoped that the direct working meetings and regular exchange forums would be held to create a deeper understanding between the Japanese enterprises and Vietnam, as a basis for the development of investment cooperation between the countries./.
