Under the theme - ASEAN - India Partnership for Peace and Shared Prosperity - the commemorative summit is expected to discuss orientations for the dialogue partnership and pass a Vision Statement to lift the bilateral ties to a strategic partnership.
Upholding the “positive, active and responsible” spirit, the Vietnamese delegation will work to further develop the dialogue partnership in a practical and effective manner in the the areas of economics, trade, investment, science-technology, building of community and Mekong sub-region, regional peace, stability and development.
Established their relations 20 years ago, ASEAN and India hope to cement and deepen their ties further.
India became a sectoral dialogue partner of ASEAN in 1992, and a full dialogue partner in 1996. Since 2002, India held an annual Summit with ASEAN.
ASEAN-India total trade reached US$75 billion last year, 43% more than what was achieved in 2010.
The leaders of ASEAN and India have set a new target of achieving US$100 billion in trade between both sides by 2015./.
