WB finances US$200 million for clean water supply in Vietnam
The State Bank of Viet Nam (SBV) and the World Bank (WB) on February 22 signed a credit agreement of US$200 million to assist Viet Nam in realizing the National Target Program for Rural Water Supply and Sanitation.

World Bank Country Director for VietnamVictoria Kwakwa and State Bank of Vietnam Governor Nguyen Van Binh signed the agreement in Hanoi on February 22

According to the WB, the credit is aimed at providing clean and safe water for around 1.7 million people and improving the sanitary conditions for 650,000 people in eight Red River Delta provinces in the 2012-2016 phase.
The program also strengthens the institutional system and improves the planning, supervision and evaluation work at these provinces.
The credit is very necessary for the provinces in the Red River Delta where the access to clean water is limited and the quality of water remains low, said Governor of the SBV Nguyen Van Binh.
WB is ready to continue its assistance for bettering the access to clean water and sanitation in the area, confirmed WB’s Country Director for Viet Nam Victoria Kwakwa.

The same day, the Australian Government Overseas Aid Program committed to providing AU$8 million for this target program to help Viet Nam raise its economic competitiveness and maintain environment sustainability.
