Authorities in Canada on Friday said that following a loss in March, the country's employment improved slightly in April, with its unemployment rate being held steady at 7.2 percent in the same month.
According to Statistics Canada, there were 34,000 more people working in the public sector in April, but there was little change in the number of private sector employees and the self-employed.
Compared with 12 months earlier, the employment in the country increased by 163,000, or a growth rate of 0.9 percent, said the Canadian agency.
The employment gains occurred in the manufacturing and public administration. These gains were offset by job losses in sectors such as transportation and warehousing; and business, building and other support services./.
