Singapore's retail sales in June increased by 0.4 percent year on year, the Department of Statistics said Friday.
However, excluding motor vehicles, retail sales fell 2.1 percent year on year.
Sales of recreational goods dipped 10.1 percent year on year, while those of telecommunications apparatus and computers fell by 7.6 percent. The sales of motor vehicles rose by 12.4 percent year on year.
On a month-on-month basis, the total retail sales decreased by 1.1 percent in June. Excluding motor vehicles, the decline is 1.2 percent. The sales of telecommunications apparatus and computers dropped by 9.3 percent, while those of recreational goods fell by 8.1 percent.
The sales of food and beverages in June rose by 2.9 percent year on year, but declined by 3.5 percent month on month.
Separately, a report released by real estate service provider Savills on Friday said that retailers do not expect sales from this year's Great Singapore Sale, held from May 30 to July 27, to surpass that of the shopping season in 2013, local broadcaster Channel NewsAsia said.
A drop in tourist numbers, weak economic growth and the increasing popularity of online shopping have led to slower sales for retailers here in the second quarter, the report said. Excluding motor vehicles, retail sales grew by 0.1 percent year on year in May./.
