Deputy PM Vu Duc Dam hailed the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to resume the reception of Vietnamese laborers to work in the Republic of Korea (RoK) under the Employment Permit System (EPS).

Deputy PM Dam on May 17 hosted a reception for RoK Minister of Employment and Labor Lee Ki-kweon.
Mr. Dam hoped that the MoU would contribute to promote the fine bilateral ties and strengthen cooperation in labor.
He called on competent agencies of the two countries to work closely and conduct necessary measures to reduce the number of illegal Vietnamese guest workers in the RoK, including the provision of information about laborers whose work contracts have expired.
The Vietnamese Government, affirmed the Deputy PM,always attaches importance to and creates favorable ways for Korean citizens and investors to live and do business in Viet Nam.
The Korean minister stated that Vietnamese workers are well adaptive to the working environment in the RoK.
The signing of the MoU will open up more opportunities for Vietnamese laborers who want work in the RoK and for those who are residing and working illegally in the RoK tovoluntarilyreturn home, Mr. Lee Ki-kweon.
Within the framework of the EPS, since 2004, Viet Nam has sent over 75,000 guest workers to the RoK with average income of US$1,000-1,500 per month per person. Vietnamese guest workers were highly valued for their hard-working and creation.
However, the rate of Vietnamese guest workers stayingillegally in the RoK has remained high in recent years, negatively affecting the labor cooperation between the two countries.
The rate of illegal Vietnamese workers in the RoK declined to about 35 percent in 2015 from 47% in 2013./.
