German consumer confidence fell for the second consecutive month considering the international situation, market research group GfK reported on Friday.
Following a value of 8.6 points in September, which was the first fall in consumer confidence since January 2013, the overall indicator is forecasting 8.3 points for October, according to GfK's monthly report.
The report, made up of three parts, shows that the indicator values for economic expectations, for income expectations and for willingness to buy all see a decline to the same extent of six to seven points.
Almost at the same time, the Ifo Business Climate Index for industry and trade in Germany fell already for fifth consecutive month to 104.7 points in September, the lowest level since April 2013.
In addition, the Federal Association of German Industry has also lowered its growth forecast from 2.0 to 1.5 percent.
"The continuing tense geopolitical situation, which threatens to affect the development of Germany in the eyes of consumers, has further diminished the optimism in September," the Nuremberg-based research group stated in its report.
"If the situation deteriorates, private consumption could lose its role as a pillar of the economy," researchers warned.
GfK Consumer Climate survey has been conducted since 1980, whose findings are based on around 2,000 consumer interviews conducted each month on behalf of the European Commission./.
