Opening the event, he said this year’s APEC activities should focus on digital, inclusive, responsible and stable economic growth; small- and medium-sized enterprises; and women’s economic participation.
The official noted his country’s economic growth has improved considerably since it opened to the international market more than two decades ago.
The APEC Vision Group meeting was one of the 60 technical meetings of the 21 APEC economies that will last until March 8 to discuss new economic goals replacing the Bogor Goals, and the reduction of trade and investment barriers.
Chile will host the annual APEC Leaders’ Meeting on November 16-17 this year.
This is the second time the South American nation has hosted the APEC forum, following the first in 2004.
APEC gathers 21 member economies that make up 40 percent of the global population, 60 percent of the global gross domestic product and 50 percent of the world’s total trade revenue./.
