A Japanese Maritime Defence Force destroyer arrived Zhanjiang on June 24, starting a five-day visit to China.
The 4,650-tonne destroyer, which left from Hiroshima’s Kure port, is carrying aid for the victims of the May 12 quake in Sichuan province, including 300 blankets and 2,600 sets of packed food.
Manned by 240 Japanese naval officers, the destroyer “Sazanami” is the first Japanese warship to visit China since World War II.
Earlier, on November 28 last year, a Chinese missile destroyer Shenzhen docked in Japan . This was the first time a Chinese warship visited Japan since the People’s Republic of China founded in 1949.-Enditem
