The Party, State and Government pay great attention to the agricultural and rural development, considering this a solution to promote economic growth and maintain social security, stressed PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng.
The PM made the emphasis this morning at a meeting to discuss the agriculture and rural development plan in 2009.
This year, though facing many epidemics, natural disasters and economic difficulties, Việt Nam has still produced 38.6 million tons of paddy rice, 2.7 million tons higher than 2007.
The production value of agro-forestry and fishery processing industry grew up 15%. The export of agro-forestry and marine products hit the record. Among 470 processing enterprises nationwide, 245 ones have penetrated into the EU market.
Apprepriating the sector’s achievements, PM Dũng stated that, in the coming time, the sector should focus on nurturing human resource, upgrading production skills, and developing agriculture in a sustainable way.
The PM also urged the formation of food granaries so as to export about 4 million tons of paddy rice and 2 million tons of husked rice per year.
At the meeting, leaders of the sector vowed to join hands with the whole country in preventing economic recession. The sector will try to increase its added value by 2.8%, production value 4.3-4.6%, and the afforestation area by 39.8%.
The delegates also pointed out shortcomings and unsolved problems as well as proposed many measures to address these weaknesses for better performance in 2009.
